2007 : News of Studies and Projects

2007 has been another interesting year for IID, its Risk Science Group has expanded its activities, its mainstream international consulting services have been maintained as summarised under each country below. Its Development Fund activities have also continued with a new book and more research grant success and a significant input into developing ideas to sequester carbon by rehabilitating degraded forests, agricultural lands and other systems in the tropics. A process called Carbon Bio-sequestration. This works makes use of the company's extensive rural development experience in the tropics and is explained in more detail on the special carbon bio-sequestration web page. The company has also formed a link with the University of Adelaide under its mentoring program.

National Action Plan. IID was contracted by Land and Water Australia and Land Repair Australia, to prepare an information memorandum for presentation to institutional investors for a fund to acquire degraded land.

2002 : IID wins a major management contract in Mongolia

IID wins a major management contract in Mongolia to assist the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to modernise its service to agriculture in the 4 western Aimags of Hovd, Zhavkhan & Uvs. IID is the lead contractor in the management of the $US14 million ADB financed Mongolian Agricultural Sector Development Project.

2001 : Catchment Management Seminar for the Mekong River Commission (MRC)

IID was contracted to prepare and deliver a Catchment Management Seminar for the Mekong River Commission (MRC) Secretariat staff as part of the planning stage for a MRC State of the Basin Report intended to an annual report for publication on the MRC web site.

2000 : Strategic Plan for the Mekong River Commission Agriculture Irrigation and Forestry Program

IID provided a team leader and a junior professional under it’s mentoring program (link to mentoring page, Stuart Higgins) to assist the MRC and officers from each of the Mekong riparian states to prepare a new strategy for it’s Agriculture Irrigation and Forestry Program. The work was undertaken as an iterative series of participatory processes over a period of one year.

Strategic Plan for Myanmar

The Institute was commissioned by the United Nations Drug Control Programme (UNDCP) to prepare a $US300 million strategic economic development plan for the Government of Myanmar to be linked to government and community activities to eliminate the growing of opium and the local abuse of opiates.

IID Wins Contract to Evaluate 'Salt Loving' Grasses

IID was awarded a contract by NyPa Incorporated through its Australian subsidiary to supervise two R & D projects spanning Western Australia, South Australia and Victoria. The value of the projects total some $A1.2 million and involves collaboration with the Departments concerned with Agriculture in those states, together with the University of Melbourne.
